How it started

Brooklyn-based photographer and art director Julia Parris loves snail mail, and has been sending letters to friends around the world for as long as she can remember. In 2011 she started what would become known as the Handmade Valentine Exchange. At the time, Julia was making and sending valentines to a handful of friends around the globe, but the next year she invited the public to join and it doubled in size. Participation has grown to include over 2000 people from as far as Germany, Spain, France, UK, Russia, Australia, Costa Rica, India, Mexico and US.

FAQ

Code of Conduct

Handmade Valentine Exchange is a safe place to share love and positivity throughout the world regardless of anyone's race, religion, sexual orientation or politics. This is not a platform to push any other agenda but love. We will not tolerate any other behavior.

FAQ

Do you have to be an artist/designer to participate?
Not at all. Each Valentine should be handmade by you, but it is open to interpretation, and can be done by anyone of any skill or background.

-----
Can I send cards I bought at the paper store?
Nope. It just wouldn’t be a Handmade Valentine Exchange if we did that.

-----

Do I have to sign my name on the card?
Nope, it can be whatever you want as long as you're sending a positive vibe.

What do I do if I don’t get my cards mailed by Valentine’s Day?
Don’t panic, it happens. Mail your cards as soon as possible. It’s better to receive a Valentine late than not at all.

-----

Will my address be published on the site?
No, only the people in your group will receive your address and we never share email with third parties.
